Waterdown Dentists
About Our Dental Team
Panacea Dental in Waterdown has four dentists: Dr. Noor Al-Rubaye, Dr. Gheed Khoja, Dr. Rana Aldabagh and Dr. Hussam Alfakir. Dental services at the practice are provided by general dentists.
What a general dentist does
A general dentist is the practitioner most people see for everything: examinations and cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canal treatment, extractions, cosmetic treatment and, in many cases, orthodontics and implants.
Dentistry in Ontario is regulated by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, which registers every practising dentist in the province and maintains a public register anyone can search. Specialty titles such as orthodontist or periodontist are protected in law and can only be used by dentists holding specialty registration, which is why a practice should be precise about what its dentists are. Ours practise as general dentists.
Seeing the same dentist
Continuity matters more than most people expect. A dentist who has watched a particular tooth across three years notices change that someone reading a chart for the first time will not: a filling margin that has started to stain, a crack that has lengthened slightly, gum measurements that have crept deeper in one area. Much of dentistry is pattern recognition over time.
If you would like to see a particular dentist, say so when you book and we will schedule around their availability. If you would prefer to change to a different dentist in the practice, that is also completely fine and does not need explaining.
What happens at a first appointment
A first visit is an examination rather than a sales pitch. We look at the teeth, gums and soft tissues, measure the gum condition, take radiographs where they are needed to see between teeth and below the gumline, and then explain what we found in plain terms. If treatment is needed you will be told what it is, why it is needed, what it costs and what happens if you wait. If nothing needs doing, you will be told that too. See your first visit.
When we refer out
No general practice does everything, and a practice that claims otherwise is worth questioning. Complex surgical cases, some specialist orthodontic work and treatment that is better carried out in a hospital setting are referred to the appropriate specialist. We would tell you that rather than attempt something at the edge of what is sensible in general practice.
